A little to the northeast lies Geoffrey Bawa’s brother the celebrated horticulturist and landscape architect Bevis’s Brief Garden, designed in the late 1929s. When Australian painter and friend Donal Friend came to stay here in 1962, Bevis sculpted Friends’ paintings. Together their work produced the anthropomorphic flower vases, the Bacchus Bird bath and many heads that are now amidst this expanse of botanical wonder.

Some famous names who’ve spent time here are Vivien Leigh, Sir Laurence Olivier, Peter Finch and Queen Ingrid of Denmark.

Spend more time wandering by booking a meal of lunch, high-tea or dinner at the bungalow.
